Mt. Antero

Height: 14,269
Range: Sawatch
Date: June 15, 2003

The panoramic picture above is from the peak of Antero. I didnt really plan on putting all the pics together, this was kind of an experiment with picture editing. For that reason, the lighting is a little off and there are objects in the picture (hikers and backpacks) that should have been moved before the pics were taken. Future shots should be better.

Four of us went to the south end of the Sawatch range to hike Antero on a beautiful June day. The roads were good enough that we were able to drive above the treeline, making for an easier hike. For Paul and Jimmy it was their first 14er although Jimmy had attempted Longs peak before. Ski and I took off and actually missed the trail at about 13000 ft because it was covered with snow. We hiked around the mountain and approached the peak from another side. We had brought radios and they came in handy as we were able to direct Jimmy and Paul to the more direct and easier route. We summited after only 2.5 hours, and I felt great despite working all night and having no sleep. We waited an hour for the other two to get to the top and then set off down the mountain. Above is a group pic and a solo pic of Paul at the peak, and to the right is a group pic back at the truck at the end of the hike (notice we have changed clothes). Below are pics of Ski and Donnie at the peak, and then a video of Ski driving through a stream, and a pic of Ski on the way down with a 13er in the background. You can see a few more pics on the June page.

Click on the pic below to see a video of Ski driving through a mountain stream at around 11,000 ft.

Note:

You must have 'quicktime' video to play the file, if you dont have it you can download it here for free.
